• The United Road Transport Union's driving agency that was due to get underway in April has finally secured the finance to start work—but there will be a further delay until a general manager has been appointed.
"Industry's Driving Force" will be created as a separate limited company and will offer training and full-time employment for drivers (CM 19
December 1996-1 January 1997).
URTU Spokesman Douglas Curtis says: "We have secured the half-a-million pounds we needed; we are now busily recruiting drivers who want to participate in the agency."
Curtis reports that major transport firms have expressed an interest in the scheme, but training will not begin without a general manager. That job is now being advertised.
