IN future it will be easier for the Department of Transport to deal efficiently and clearly with certificates for type-approved goods vehicles which are altered in a way which affects their plated weights.

An amendment to the Transport Bill bringing this about was accepted without a division before the Committee considering the measure ended its proceedings.

Junior Transport Minister Lynda Chalker explained that at present, when such a vehicle was examined, its certificate could be altered to show the plated weights which applied to the vehicle following its alteration.
