Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Haulage, London, Colchester

I WAS horrified to read in CM May 15 that the Greater London Council wants to ban lorries over 32.5 tonnes from the capital, just when the Government looks set at last to let us run the vehicles we have wanted for years.

What a disaster it would be for the industry if after all our lobbying, and all our patience in dealing with politicians who share Dave Wetzel's view that these lorries are "intimidating monstrosities", we are then to be prevented from running them into the nation's largest market.

Just whatfuture do the councillors in London see for their city? It certainly will not be one in which there is any prosperous business, for uneconomic haulage will do nothing to revive industry and improve the quality of economic life.

Perhaps the industry is not doing enough to drive the message home. Maybe we should block off the capital's main roads with the lorries which "intimidate" the GLC. LESLIE SUTTON Colchester, Essex
