OVER £300,000 a year was now being saved by thd Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., Mr. J. S. Wills, chairman, told the shareholders on Tuesday.

The development of high-seatingcapacity buses had enabled the company to keep down the size of their fleet. The latest ticket machines had been introduced. Bus cleaning had been mechanized and spray-painting had taken the place of the more costly brush method. Conductors' night safes had been installed. Low-viscosity lubricating oils had effected large savings in fuel.

Last year, the number of passengers carried dropped by 1m., but mileage increased by nearly 2m. During the year, 114 new vehicles were introduced, 17 new services were inaugurated and the frequency of 143 services was increased. Since the end of the war, nearly 1,100 new vehicles had been added to the fleet.

Later in the year, production of 270 underfloor-engined single-deck buses, incorporating many new features, such as lightweight construction and improved suspension, would be started.
