Scott Pulleyn of Pulleyn Transport agrees that some fines are “petty fogging”, but says a common approach to more serious offences is developing. He says enforcement of drivers’ hours and rest periods is more stringent in France, while Germany is particularly tough on enforcing loading and overloading restrictions.
Vehicle impounding is rare, according to Paul Carter, accounts manager with High Wycombe-based Geodis UK, which covers EU member states and beyond. He says the worst delays often happen when going through customs on leaving the EU.
