TWO TRUCK DRIVERS caught exceeding the daily driving limit and taking insufficient daily rest have been ordered to pay tines and costs totalling £670 by the Chester magistrates.

Jagclish Tejura of Rush ley Mead, Leics. and Michael Fawcett of Banbury, Oxon, each pleaded guilty to like offences, In Tejura's case, the magistrates were told that, on 26 July last year, he was driving an 18-tonne vehicle that was subjected to a roadside check on the A5117 at Dunkirk, near Ellsmere Port. An examination of his tachograph records revealed he had failed to observe a daily rest period of a minimum nine consecutive hours. In addition,Tejura had driven for a total of 12 hours and 18 minutes the previous day.

In Fawcett's case, the magistrates were told his 44-tonne attic was the subject of a similar check at Dunkirk the following day. An examination of his tachograph records revealed that on 15 July, he had driven for 10 hours and 45 minutes and had taken only seven hours and 53 minutes of rest.

The magistrates fined Tejura £260 and Fawcett £180. They also ordered the men to each pay £115 in costs,
