SCOTTISH coachbuilder Walter Alexander of Falkirk is to increase its sales and marketing ready for deregulation.
Its recently appointed sales and marketing manager, Ian Murray says that the recently facelifted all-aluminium Ptype single-decker could prove attractive to independent operators as it is attractively styled, competitively priced and has a long life potential.
Six P-types have recently been completed on Volvo Citybus chassis for West Mid
lands PTE and Alexandcrs feels that such a specification, with the advantages of a low floor and running units similar to those used in BlOM coaches could prove particularly attractive to Volvo coach operators looking to compete in the local bus market.
Murray does not rule out the possiblility of the company appointing dealers to sell its products if the market takes it in that direction. He also told CM that the company can build its P-type body on chassis other than the City-bus. It has already built on Leyland Tiger and would look at other chassis if required, but its production facilities and methods are more suited to hatch, rather than one-off production runs.
Despite the recession in new bus orders Alexanders is currently able to boast a healthy order hook and has a full factory at present.
Current production includes double-deckers for the Scottish Bus Group and for 'Fyne and Wear PTE.
