A SPANISH lorry driver who drove continuously for three weeks was fined 0,100 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of 103.89 when he appeared before Grimsby magistrates.
Lucero Polo Agustin, of Alicante, admitted six offices of failing to take the required weekly rest period, two of exceeding the permitted weekly driving limit and three of exceeding the permitted daily driving limit.
Traffic examiner Malcolm Plaskitt told the magistrates that he had examined Augustin's tachograph charts at the premises of Wold Farm Foods where the vehicle was to pick up vegetables.
The chart showed that Augustin had driven continuously between February 19 and March 11.
In two different weeks he had driven for totals of 64 hours and 30 minutes and 58 hours and 44 minutes when the weekly driving limit was 48 hours.
He had twice driven for nine hours 40 minutes in a day and for 1(1 hours 42 minutes on a third occasion.
Through an interpreter. Augustin said he had to drive for these periods otherwise he would have been sacked by his employer.
