• The first of 20 Glasgow buses being fitted with radio-telephones—at a total cost of £2,000—in a bid to stop rowdyism, is now in operation. But during its first week there was no need for the driver to call transport HQ in the city centre.
The scheme is backed by the Transport and General Workers Union.
It is intended to switch the radio buses from area to area, so that troublemakers will not know whether or not their bus has a radio.
