New Fire Extinguisher With Doubled Output

ALARGER-CAPAC1TY fire extinguisher is now available from the Bradville Trading Co., Ltd., 6 Stratton Street, London, W.1. Known as the Bradex model T 60, it has double the capacity and has twice the discharge rate of the model T 54. A twin jet valve is used, and the improved discharge rate has been obtained without-altering the optimum pressure.

Constructed in brass and chromium plated, the new extinguisher is supplied with a polythene-coated bracket and fixing screws. It iS 2 in. in diameter and 91 in. long. The retail price is £3 15s, There is an advance replacement service whereby stockists supply a new extinguisher at refill price--£1 7s. 6d.— the empty extinguisher being returned to the manufacturers.

Temperature-gauge Kit A N electric temperature-gauge kit,

costing £3, is now being marketed by the AC-Delco Division of General Motors, Ltd., Dunstabie, Beds. Components are a 12v. dash unit, a 12v. engine unit threaded -S. in, by 18 t.p.i. B.S.P., and a hose adaptor for Use where engine tappings do not exist and it is not desired to drill and tap the cylinder head.

The kit is available only for 12v. operation, but normal, non-electric capilliary-type thermo-gauges are available for vehicles of. other voltages.

Heavy-duty Vulcanizer AHEAVY vulcanizer for use with commerciaI-vehicle tyres is now available from Automotive Parts and Accessories, Bowes House, Battle Road, Hailsham, Sussex. The new model differs from their light Lectoseal vulcanizer in that it has a larger and heavier arm and two heater heads, giving simultaneous heat, top and bottom, to the inside arid outside of the tyre.

This is said to result in quicker repairs and, at the same time, ensure homogeneous cooking right through the thickness of the tyre. Five mandrels are supplied so that various types of repair may be carried out.

Protective Coating APREPARATION for rust-proofing iron and steel is being produced by Southern Metalife, Ltd., Tames Street, Harrogate, Yorkshire. It is a liquid anodic metal, and when applied to iron and steel gives a metallic coating which is anodic to the underlying surface. This gives cathodic protection as a result of the difference in clectro-potential between the two metals.

Surface moisture acts as an electrolyte and the resulting electro-chemical effect is said, to prevent rusting by reflecting any corrosive attack to the Metalife. Should the coatings be damaged, rust cannot spread, for narrow scratches will in effect tend to heal themselves through the natural elcctro-plating action of the preparation.

Metalife may be applied with an ordinary brush or spray gun and is available in several grades, aecording to the characteristic's required and the intended use of the article after treatment.

Southern Metalife also produce Metakote, a chemical-resisting plastics skin which may be applied by brushing, spraying or dipping. When dry it leaves a clear plastics skin on the surface treated, and is said to have a high resistance to acids, alkalis, solvents, petrol and oils.

Flexible Terminal Strip A 12-WAY, 5-10-amp. flexible ter

minal strip has been put into production by Precision Components (Barnet), Ltd., 13 Byng Road, Barnet. Known as the Kabi type FLX.5, it is moulded in black Vybac p.v.e. and can be cut readily into smaller units if required.

Fixing holes are provided along its entire length and by virtue of flexibility in both planes, it may he secured to almost any irregular or radiused surface without risk of fracture.

Swivel Hose Coupling A N anti-kink high-pressure swivel .1-3, hose coupling has been introduced by Meynell and Sons, Ltd., Montrose Street, Wolverhampton. It is designed to join either hose to hose, or hose with suitable attachments to a rigid valve. It gives an unlimited amount of free turning.

Torsional s tr es s is said to be eliminated, and the action of the coupling in swivelling freely under pressure prevents kinking. It is guaranteed leak-proof under pressures of up to 2,000 p.s.i.

Available in sizes from in. to .4 in. inclusive, the coupling is manufactured from-high-tensile Steel, cadmium plated. and is suitable for uses other than with a hose, such as connecting feed lines to rotating equipment.

Transport and the Law A N extremely useful book entitled.

"Road Traffic Offences," by G. S. Wilkinson, has been published by the Solicitors Law Stationery Society at 35s. Designed for legal practitioners having a day-to-day acquaintance with road traffic prosecutions, it is yet of sufficient clarity, both of arrangement and text, to appeal to any large-scale transport operator.

Its chief advantage is its numerous brief references to the facts of decided cases, and although the Road Traffic Acts are not given in full, the relevant parts of them are set out in the appropriate sections of the book dealing with each particular offence.

Contained in the appendix are some well-chosen statutory regulations, including the Goods Vehicles (Keeping of Records) Regulations, 1935, and the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations, 1955.

The arrival of this book, which i5 really a second edition of a work under a slightly different title, is particularly timely when the provisions of the Road Traffic Act. 1956, which arc fully discussed in the text, are starting to make an impact on traffic offences generally.

If a criticism is to be made, it is in respect of the opening chapter on definitions in which the sub-headings of subjects for definition follow no recognizable pattern, alphabetical or otherwise.
