ONE of the largest tippers ever built in this country has gone into service with F. Wardell (Haulage), Ltd., 133 Eighcr Lane, Lymm, for the transport of dry meal. It is a Guy Invincible with a Meadows engine. Boalloy 34cu-IL body and Edbro 5AT twin-ram gear, and was supplied by Arden and Eull, Ltd., Old Market Place, Al' ri irtharn. Wheelbase of the vehicle is 16 ft. 91 in., and the sixcylindcred engine develops 127 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m. The Edbro gear has four telescopic sections and is operated by a nine-cylin
dered positive-displacement swashplate Piston pump. It can lift 16-18 tons: A neutral contrel valve holds the rams in any position when raising or lowering the body.
Bowyer Bros_ (Congleton), Ltd., West Heath, Congleton, Cheshire, used light alloy for the construction of the body. which is 22 ft.long, 8 fl, wide and 5 ft: 6 in. high. There are four trans
verse stays to prevent bulging of the sides. The 2-ft.-deep tailgate is hinged at the top and is secured by a quickrelease mechanism.
The cab is constructed of a combination of light alloys and Fibreglass. The two-piece wrap-round windscreen is swept down at its lower edge to give the driver exceptional visibility and is supplemented by windows let into the corners of the cab below windscreen
level. It is 'mounted at four points on Metalastik units.
A Delaney Gallay heater is fitted, and the Speedometer is electric-ally operated. The driver's Seat is fully adjustable and two rear-view mirrors are provided. The interior panels are trimmed with leather cloth and the floor is covered with rubber.
Overall length of the vehicle is 28 ft. and height 10 ft. 8 in. It is painted bright blue. An impressive appearance is presented by the outfit_ As reported last week, a licence for the vehicle has been granted by the North Western 1 icensing Authority.
