SIX SHEFFIELD .• OPERATORS UNITE
uTNDER the title of Sheffield United Li Tours, Ltd., a new company has been formed which will operate the excursions and tours, private-hire work and seaside express services that formerly have been carried on by Mr. A. F. Hancock, Arthur Kitson, Ltd., Mr. J. Grocock, Mr. E. Warriner, Mr. G. T. Nicholson and Messrs. j. and W. Kavanagh. The facilities referred to above will be operated under the title of United Motor Services. Extended holiday tours, as provided by Mr. A. F. Hancock, will still be worked under the name of Hancock's Motor Tours.
COMPANY TROLLEYBUSES TO REPLACE MUNICIPAL TRAMS.
BOLTON Transport Committee has decided to replace trams by trolleybuses on the route from Bolton to Four Lane Ends. Trolleybuses are at present being run on this route by the South Lancashire Transport Co. and, in future, it is proposed that the company shall provide the entire normal service with its vehicles.
It is intended that the local authority shall receive all revenue taken inside the borough boundary on the trolleybuses. The company will have from the corporation a certain payment, varying with the mileage run. At peak periods, the regular service will he augmented by oil-engined buses, for which purpose the company has purchased seven more vehicles.
EFFECT OF EXTENDED BOROUGH ON PRIVATE OPERATOR.
C./ A N important point of principle is involved in a decision which has been announced by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners. Mr. G. Crosby. of Hunmanby, near Scarborough, was granted a licence for a. stage service between Scarborough and Hunmanby, B42
on condition that he did not pick up and set down passengers within Scarborough.
In April, 1934, however, Scarborough Corporation advanced the borough boundary by .8 mile along Mr. Crosby's route, so that he was precluded from picking up passengers at Wheatcroft. The Commissioners have now ruled that the condition shall not apply on that part of the route covered by the change in the position of the borough boundary, and Mr. Crosby is, therefore, allowed to operate as before the change.
PROTECTION AGREEMENT RATIFIED.
THE Northern Traffic Commissioners have ratified the agreement between Darlington Corporation and United Automobile Services, Ltd., regarding fares for the protection of the muni cipal trolleybus services. The corporation now intends making similar arrangements with other bus companies operating in the Darlington area.
FINE NEW DUNDEE STATION.
THE new central bus station of W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., was opened at Dundee on March 15. All the Alexander. and Scottish Motor Traction services will pass through the station, which is the only one of its kind in Scotland outside Glasgow and is claimed to be even more up to date than the latter.
WESTERN NATIONAL DEAL.
WE understand that the Western rof National Omnibus Co., Ltd., is taking over the business of Messrs, Silver Cars, • who run a daily express service, during the season, from London to Dorset and Devon.
