• French proposals to use the same type of roalsigns all over Europe have been condemned as unnecessary, dangerous and disruptive to people's habits.
Britain, Germany and Denmark all said no to the proposal, put at a meeting of FU Transport Ministers, Belgium also refused to change its signs, where Flemish often confuses foreigners. The Flemish for Lille reads "Rijsel", for example, but the Belgians say it is a constitutional obligation to have Flemish signs.
