• Small operators who have expanded their bus operations could be vulnerable to takeover in the next few years, warns a leading advocate of PSV deregulation.
Peter Rogers, who sold his interest in 15-vehicle Rainworth Travel to East Midland Motor Services in March, says that 10-to-20-vehicle operators who were taking perhaps £100,000 in commercial service were "getting vulnerable."
He won a two-year service contract to remain with Rainworth Travel when it was bought by East Midland. A month later, East Midland was acquired by Stagecoach Holdings, but Rainworth Travel remains freestanding with no visible change of identity.
