Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YUILL and Dodds, the haulier which crossed picket lines during the miners' strike, has run up against another hurdle in its latest venture — its neighbours.

It has already been granted an additional six vehicles and six trailers on its operator's licence for its one depot (CM May 25). Now it wants to enlarge the premises at Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

But angry neighbours in the residential part of the town claim that if he succeeds in taking over another piece of land, they will be faced with night-time noise from an increasing fleet of lorries.

Yuill and Dodds has applied to East Kilbride District Council to acquire ground next to his yard in Strathayen. In its application • the company says that it wants to buy the ground as an extension of its premises.

Some residents have already complained to the council's environmental health department over the night-time noise. Yuill and Dodds has been asked by the council to submit a plan showing a detailed plan of usc for the extra ground.

During the miners' strike Yuill and Dodds lorries carried coke into Ravenscraig steel works. Since the strike ended the company has won a share of a Um contract to haul sweetened coal from Ayrshire to the Longannet power station in Fife.
