LAST WEEK'S Road Tanker Show at Redditch was organised by the Ryland Group and supported by a wide range of ancillary equipment manufacturers for the oil industry.

Ryland Vehicles Ltd changed its name to Ryland Tankers Ltd after it moved into new premises at Redditch in February. The new company was set up to provide sales, service and parts, all under the one roof, to meet the needs of fuel oil distributors.

Through its association with Thompson Tankers Ltd at Durham, and the Group's own vehicle franchises, Ryland Tankers supply new vehicles complete with tank and equipment conforming to petroleum regulations.

Remounting and refurbishing is another side to the business, while the spares department backs up its service vans, which make regular calls throughout the country, with an emergency service offering replacements within 24 hours.

1. The Pluto 3 is a discharge pump manufactured by Drum Engineering Co Ltd of Bradford. It is used by all the major oil companies. More usually linked to a pto drive, it has a capacity of 180-200 gallon /min for bulk delivery. When used with a metering system and a 1.5in diameter hose on distribution work, the flow rate is limited to about 70 gallon /min. Drum Engineering also markets a complete system for hydraulic drive.

2. Drum Engineering's la addition to its product rang the Saturn 4 pump, suitable viscous products. Aimed manly at the food trade, quick strip-down ability already found approval v both Tate and Lyle and Bri Sugar.

3. Ryland Tankers' 27,5 litre, six-compartment sp tank trailer includes 4in er gency valves and pipework 3in faucet to give a fast gra discharge. Internal Tank coating helps for a clean charge and is a protect against corrosion. When cc led to a short-wheelbase 2 (91t 6in) tractive unit, it is lieved to give the shortest a■ able overall wheelbase therefore the best mano€ rabililty.

4. White Truck Conces naires, based at Colest Birmingham, is part of Ryland group. The cab, t mainly from a combinatior alloy and grp, is availablf left-hand-drive form only at sent, but is an interest machine for Continental wor is powered by the Caterp 340 diesel rated at 197.3 (264 bhp).

5. The Seddon Atkinson 300 R 24 M 466, equipped with an

International DT 466 engine, ZF gearbox and Eaton double-drive bogie, provides a good compro mise of power and weight, and is finding favour with many oil distribution companies. This

vehicle fitted with a 19,000-litre

(4,180 gal), five-compartment steel tank, has been built for DFO work and meets the full petrol regulations. It will shortly be in service with AID Fuel Oils.

6. The tanks from two of Manx Petroleum's 1964 twin-steer Leyland eight-leggers are being transferred onto Seddon Atkinson six-wheeled chassis for operation at 24 tons gross. The tank mounts had to be modified to allow clearance for pipe runs.

7. South Western Petroleum has had a 10,000-litre (2,200 gal) four-compartment steel

tank remounted onto a new Dodge 100-Series. The conver

sion includes a change from the original side-mounted hose reel to a Fort Vale catherine-wheel design mounted low on the chassis in front of the tank.

8. A simple push/pull linkage with inching and winding switch, mounted on each side of the vehicle, controls the rotation of the Fort Vale reel. Guide rol lers extend the full width of the vehicle, allowing the hose to clear the bodywork when in use.

9. The pressure in the Dyson air suspension air-bags is adjusted automatically to suit the load condition. This is said to be kinder to the tank structure, especially in the light-laden condition.

10. The stores at Reddich are claimed to carry the most com prehensive range of replacement and exchange equipment for petrol regulation vehicles.

11. All Seddon Atkinson petrol reg 300 models and some 200 and 400 models have factory-fitted, cab-mounted, isolator switcnes, wired directly to the battery main switch.
