FORMER TRANSPORT Minister William Rodgers has been promoted within the Shadow Cabinet to become its front bench spokesman on defence.
Until 1976, Mr Rodgers was Minister of State at the Defence Department.
His place has been taken by Albert Booth, Secretary of State for Employment in the last Government.
Mr Rodgers' return to defence may be seen as an Opposition reflection of the Conservative Government's decision to relegate the Minister of Transport's position to one outside the cabinet.
