Parliamentary Secretary fo Transport, Kenneth Clark( stated in the Commons tha research had been carried ou on both road design an vehicle modification with th aim of reducing spray.
Several stretches of per vious road surfaces on motoi ways and trunk roads ha been tested over the past fiv years, and the results wer currently being evaluated.
Tests of experimentr mudguard designs and airflol devices on heavy good vehicles had been carried ou and a report on them wa being printed for publicatior The general conclusion of th report was that no satisfactor solution had yet been found t the problem of spray.
However, added Mr Clark, further work on vehicle desig was to be carried out in car boration with the Universit of Southampton in the currer financial year, and the 13( partment was at present er gaged in evaluating certai devices developed by ir dividual firms.
