Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SIR BARRIE HEATH has welcomed the attitude of the new Government towards the motor industry and said the industry looked forward to working with, rather than for, Whitehall.

The newly re-elected president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said: "Nationally we have a Government which promises to support rather than interfere with industry; to encourage self-discipline, selfregulation and reward for achievement. How often we in the motor industry have called for these objectives and the means to make them work."

On the subject of oil supplies, Sir Barrie said: "There is an overriding international problem of energy supply and price. Nobody can doubt that this will continue, that oil supplies are finite, that prices will rise and that political problems in many places can affect supply at almost any time. Our attitude to its use must change. Nationally we must look to conservation of oil wherever possible."

Sir Barrie pointed out that road transport in all its forms only consumes 26 per cent of all the oil used in this country. "There is still room for saving fuel in the way in which we drive, tune and service our vehicles, and plan our journeys."
