• Sweden is to abolish its tax on diesel fuel in 1974 — and by means of a sealed kilometre-counter tax diesel-engined vehicles according to the number of miles they run. The rates of tax will vary according to type of vehicles and have yet to be determined. The new system will, it is claimed, make possible a just allocation of highway costs between various sorts of user, and enable operators to make economies when a trip is forgone.
