Torque-converter transmission for Australian Regal Mk, VI

N°gearbox in the conventional sense is installed in a new variant of the A.E.C. Regal Mk. VI single-decker bus chassis designed specifically for Australian use, a Spicer hydraulic torque converter being used to provide the necessary ratios and, of course, doing duty as an automatic clutch. An automatic lock-out is incorporated, so that direct drive operates under suitable load/speed cond ions.

This passenger chassis has been developed at the Southall works to embrace in one vehicle so far as possible the varied requirements of Australian municipal transport undertakings. The 17-ft.-6-in.-wheelbase chassis is suitable for body lengths up to 33 ft. overall, and is powered by the AH690 engine developing 192 b.h.p.

Full air suspension of the type available for all Regal Mk. VI chassis is fitted at both front and rear axles; the chassis frame has a lowered front extension at the neartide to provide for easy passenger entry.
