DEPENDANTS of passengers killed and others who were injured in the accident in May last year, when a Glasgow Corporation double-decker overturned and was struck by a 'tramcar, are suing the corporation for a total of £27,300. The corporation maintains that the accident was caused by the fault and negligence of the chassis maker, whose duty it was to construct the chassis in such a manner as to enable it to bear sufficiently the stresses and strains to which it would he subjected. COMMER MOBILE NURSING VAN FOR INDIA piESIGNED for use in remote country LI districts in India, the Edwina Mountbatten mobile nursing van, based on a Cornmer Avenger chassis, was handed over to the Indian Minister of Health, Rajkumari Amritu Kaur, in London last week.

The van, which has an all-metal body, accommodates one doctor and one nurse. The doctor's private room has an examination couch, desks, cupboards, wash-basins and seats, whilst the nurse's compartment has waiting seats, a laboratory bench with a sink and a filing cabinet.

A petrol-electric generator is carried and there is a 100-gallon water tank. Insulation of the body is in Isoflex and extends along the roof and under the floor..

A " lantern " roof affords good ventilation, and heating equipment provides warmth for use in cold weather. Lady Mountbatten contributed £1,000 towards the cost of the van which will be used for normal surgery duty, inoculations and prenatal care.

APRIL EXPORTS RISE XPORTS of commercial vehicles in April . showed an appreciable increase upon the March volume. Production totalled 21,557 units (5,389 a week), compared with 23,952 (4,790 a week) in the previous month.

Of the April output, over 13,000 vehicles were exported. The 20,515 goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special vehicles produced comprised 9,871 under 15-cwt. payload capacity, 9,688 of 15-cwt.-6-ton rating and 956 over 6 tons. A total of 956 passenger vehicles was built, of which 736 were single-deck motorbuses, 212 double-deck motorbuses and eight were trolleybuses. In addition, 86 batteryeleetrics were made.

Including dumpers and dump trucks, industrial trucks and trailers, the value of new commercial vehicles exported in April was £6,786,916.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has amended figures concerning March production. The output figure for goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special-type vehicles is now given as 22,754.
