CM Downton toasts £25m Magners contract

CM DOWN I O\ has won a five-year contract worth £25m to manage warehousing and distribution for the combined cider business of Magners.

The logistics lirm will transport Magners. produced in the Irish Republic. as well as the Gaymers cider brands. made in Shepton Mallet. Somerset. from its national distribution centre in Avonmouth, Bristol.

Last year, the parent company of Magners, C&C Group, bought the Gaymers portfolio — including Olde English. Gaymers and Blackthorn — for £45m from drinks firm Constellation Brands.

CM Downton MD Andrew Downton says: "This is a flagship contract for us. and we are looking forward to what we hope will be a long and mutually beneficial partnership with a true giant of the cider industry."

A spokesman for C&C adds that Downton was chosen for several reasons."Its long history of service to Gaymers, the simplicity of its solution and its pragmatic approach to our business all contributed to us awarding this contract."

Downton has six sites in the UK at Gloucester. Deeside, Dunstable, Stoke-on-Trent. Leeds and Coventry, and is looking to open a new Cheshire depot (see p23).
