Sussex police are not ruling out a terrorist connection with the theft of two Volvo FL7 fuel tankers from manufacturer and repairer, Maidment Tanker Services, in Litilehampton from 17.30 on Saturday 17 to 17.15 on Sunday 18 July.
A police spokesman says they are exploring the possibility that a paint shop in the area has been used to disguise the vehicles-which are distinguished by army khaki livery and Ministry of Defence plates.The theft is being treated as a high value one. The tankers are worth around £100,000 each.
The Volvo tankers are eight-wheeler rigids with amber flashing beacons. MoD registration numbers are 80KK83 with chassis number PC904238 ; and 791(.199 with chassis number MC900079.
