HE emission of harmful exhaust gases I has been discussed in Geneva by a working party on the construction of vehicles, a subsidiary body of the Economic Commission for Europe's Inland Transport Committee.

The party considered regulations in Belgium and West Germany under which the police can require a vehicle emitting excessive smoke to go to an official testing station for analysis of the exhaust gases.

Draft rules for direction indicators were also prepared. These stated that the semaphore type showing a steady light should be prohibited on new vehicles. Dimensions of rear number plates were considered.
