We must couhter the publicity of the Road Haulage Executive,: which is-spreading rapidly in many "forms, including tele

phone canvassing." ‘-• - These views were expressed by Mr. F. G. Goodwin, secretary of the West Midland • Area'of " the -Road Haulage Association, at a 'general Meeting of the Leamington, Warwick and Stratford-on-AVon Sub-area, last week.

F. Tansell, Ltd., Worcester. • • Mr: Goodwin appealed to all members to assist fellow hauliers who were ignorant of the nrccedure to be A32 followed when making applications for original permits. He .advised any haufier who faced acquisition of his

business temporarily take a post with the R.11.E., so that he could keep in" touch-with his customers pending confirmation Of the Government's policy at

the next election. •

Representations had been sent to the Executive on the-question of businesses in which there had been some change in the legal entity and a promise had been made to give sympathetic consideration to deserving cases. It was iinportant that any concern which was in this position should apply for an original permit in the ordinary way. A letter supporting the application could be forwarded later.

Mr. W. R. Ingram, West Midland Area chairman, referred to the plans of the Conservative Party if it were returned to power. He said that the size of the organizations sold back to free enterprise should be limited. Private monopoly must not be encouraged.
