MR. H. G. WELBERGEN, who has been with the Royal Dutch Shell Group. for over 31 years. retired at the end of June. At the time of his retirement he was general manager of Lumina Shell, Switzerland, a position which he had held for 22 years.

MR. C. E. SCANE has been elected chairman of the Midland Centre of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, in succession to MR. G. T. WOOD, who held the office for three years. MR. W. A. PARKES, MR. F. COLLINS and MR. J. H ANCHETT have joined the committee.

MR. A. OTTLWELL and MR. R. am% two trade apprentices who were awarded scholarships by Leyland Motors, Ltd., have returned to the company after a three-year course at Manchester College of Technology. Each has obtained a B.Sc. degree with second-class honours.

Ma. R. T. HILL, A.M.Inst.T., has resigned his post as chief transport officer of the Overseas Food Corporation in East Africa. and is now in the United Kingdom. He went to East Africa early in 1947 at the invitation of the United Africa Co., then the managing agency. During 1948 and until the end of January this year, Mr. Hill controlled all road, rail, air and sea movements for the Overseas Food Corporation in East Africa. Before joining the groundnuts scheme he was for.a number of years traffic manager of the Devon General Omnibus' and Touring Co., Ltd.
