and Technical Press was removed recentlyby the retirement of Mr. Julian Chase, NI.S.A.E , a vice-president and director of the Chilton concern and directing editor of its Automobile Division. Mr. Chase joined the United States Automobile Co. in 1899 and was later sales manager of the Ward Leonard Co., which was engaged in developing, selling and racing motor vehicles. Meanwhile he was writing many articles for various motor publication§ and became editor of "The Horseless Age" in 1904, of which he also became a partner in 1915. This, later, was amalgamated with the Class Journal Co., which eventually became the Chilton Co. In the first world war he was on the general staff, organizing training centres for transport drivers. Perhaps one day he will tell the full story of his 50 years in the industry and almost the same• period in American motor journalism.

ANEAT fuel injection , system, for which no timing device is required, has been developed by-the Hilborn Travers Engineering Co., of Los Angeles. Produced first for small units of , 100-cubic-in. capacity, it is now being designed for the Ford V-8, Chevrolet and other larger power units. Fuel flows continuously to all the injection nozzles, but each cylinder has its individual choke controlled by a butterfly valve, these valves being mounted on one shaft (two for a V engine), so that they open simultaneously by pressure on the accelerator. The fuel from the pump flows at a pressure of 35 lb. per sq. in. to a metering valve which is connected to the throttle shaft so. that it opens and closes in conjunction with the butterfly valves. Thus the pressure is caused to rise of fall in the lines running to the nozzles. The latter are designed to give a fine spray. Control of the air-fuel ratio is effected by an adjusting screw which alters the pump pressure.
