Derrick Brown, 41, after four years as managing director of Alpine Refrigerated Deliveries Ltd which has 60 depots and a fleet of more than 660 refrigerated vehicles, on Monday took over as managing director of Lyons Maid Ltd. Mr Brown succeeds J. L. Massarella who becomes md of J. W. French (Milling and Baking) Ltd, a new company formed to take over the respective milling and baking interests of the Co-operative Wholesale Society Ltd and J. W. French and Co Ltd (a subsidiary of J. Lyons and Co Ltd). Mr Brown joined Alpine as distribution operations manager shortly after it was founded in 1964; his successor as md will be announced soon.
T. A. F. (Tom) Pollard, joint managing director of R. A. Dyson and Co Ltd, left on Tuesday. to visit the Far East, including Singapore. Borneo and Indonesia. Mr Pollard will advise operators on recent developments and new models available to meet their special needs.
Dr. E. A. G. Croom, technical director of GKN Forgings Ltd and GKN Castings Ltd, Bromsgrove, has been elected a companion of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
A. Burd, Leigh-on-Sea, has been appointed manager at Kenning Tyre Services, Barking, and R. Wiggins manager at Leigh-on-Sea.
John K. Dalzell joins Transport Press Services in February as engineering executive. His principal activities will be in connection with engineering-design and market-research aspects. Mr Dalzell was until recently development engineer of Rolls-Royce's work on the Blue Streak rocket. He served his apprenticeship with Leyland Motors Ltd and later joined Leyland's heavy-goods chassis-design team.
R. Henderson, who joined Buist Motors Ltd, Newcastle upon Tyne, in 1955, as a trainee salesman and became general sales manager, has been appointed a director.
Tom Rice, 63, managing director of East Anglian Carriers Ltd, since 1954, is shortly to retire when the merger between his company and Frank Willis and Sons (Carriers) Ltd, of Barking is complete.

James Nicol, 64, National Carriers Ltd driver with 42 years' service, received a gold watch as a long-service award at Aberdeen last week. William Cameron. 63, leading depotman, and Fred Crawford, 60, clerical officer, were also presented with watches by Vincent Wray, depot manager.
B. Hirst, assistant traffic manager of the Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co. Ltd, has additionally been appointed assistant traffic manager of West Riding Automobile Co. Ltd.
Dr P. G. Wakely has beern appointed managing director of Associated Engineering Developments Ltd, the AE Group company responsible for long-term research and development together with diversification projects. Dr Wakely was previously in charge of the mechanical engineering laboratory of GEVEE Whetstone.
T. Wilkinson, docks manager of Millbay Docks at Plymouth since 1966, has been appointed by the BTDB as docks manager for Garston Docks on Merseyside. Mr Wilkinson succeeds J. M. Hughes. now operations manager, Hull.
Tom Moore has been appointed personnel manager of Dennis Brothers Ltd of Guildford.
R. Reid Jack has been appointed deputy managing director, and J. B. Cranstoun and D. F. Porter assistant managing directors of the SMT Sales and Service Co Ltd. Rex de la Haye, sales director, retired on December 31, 1970.
F. J. Collins, traffic manager of East Midland Motor Services Ltd, has been additionally appointed traffic manager of the Midland General Group from March 1. W. L. Screen, traffic manager of the Midland General Group, retires at the end of February.
We report with regret the deaths of Jack E. Duckham and Thomas Leslie Milner Gibson. Mr Duckham, president of Duckhams Oils, joined the company 43 years ago and served in all departments, eventually succeeding his father, the late Alexander Duckham, as chairman in 1945. Two years ago he resigned the post on medical advice, having suffered indifferent health for some time.
Mr Gibson, who retired from the Civil Service in 1960, during the war was Ministry of Supply Deputy Director of Mechanization T13, a development which began when Britain was faced with the task of repairing
impressed vehicles evacuated with the BEF from France. The organization developed into the "largest civilian-operated vehicle repair scheme" (CM April 30 1943) and Mr Gibson became an MBE.
