OPERATORS ARE being urged to complete an online questionnaire to have their say on the role of longer, heavier vehicles (LHVs) on UK roads.

Professor Alan McKinnon says the survey will assess the likely use that companies of any size would make of LHVs, as well as their opinions on the effect these trucks would have on their freight movements. It will also attempt to predict how much freight would be shifted from rail to road if the government were to allow LHVs onto UK roads. McKinnon, who is working on the study with a team at HeriotWatt university in Edinburgh and the Transport Research Laboratory, says researchers want to learn the industry's thoughts on the subject as soon as possible: "We'd Ike a mixture of hauliers [to respond]," he says. "Any company interested in using those vehicles: hauliers, operators, own-account operators.
