• Licences have been granted by North Western LA Martin Albu, to two firms in dispute over using the same operating centre.
Cranford Engineering Machinery applied for a new national licence for six vehicles and eight trailers, based at Mere Platt, Knutsford; and Michael Edge, trading as Cranford PSM, wanted to add three vehicles and one trailer to his existing restricted licence for one vehicle and trailer. Both applications were opposed by Macclesfield Borough Council.
Geoffrey Whittaker. a director of Cranford Engineering, said that Edge had an agreement with his company to use a small part of the site. But he had started using all of it and was now going to the High Court to claim full use.
Edge maintained he had agreed to buy the land, but Whittaker had eventually pulled out. Edge said he had always occupied the land, and that Whittaker had no intention of operating vehicles; the licence application was just a way to force him out.
Albu granted Cranford Engineering a restricted licence, subject to a condition that vehicles entered and left the site via the A50 trunk road. He also granted Edge's application.
