• Leyland Bus has won union agreement to transfer chassis assembly from Farington, Lancs to Workington, Cumbria. Only the coppersmith and fabrication areas will remain in Farington by the end of this year, says the company, and 380 jobs will be lost. Managing director John Arkell says that 27 million will be invested in the company over the next three years, and a new range of city buses will be developed at Farington. Arkell also plans to inv set 13 million per annum in new manufacturing equipment for the Farington component facility". Farington will become the major components source for Leyland Bus and other Volvo group companies.
