Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• United Automobile of Darliniton is testing five Leyland Lynx and five Daf Delta singledeckers in Durham for six months, to determine which vehicle will form the mainstay of its fleet.

They are the company's first new vehicles since 1983.

The buses will be used on local routes as well as longdistance services to Stockton and Hartlepool.

Reliability, staff and passenger appeal will be compared together with running costs and, depending on which vehicle wins, 10 more buses will be ordered in the autumn.

United Autornoible, now a subsidiary of Caldaire North East, will dispose of the five unsuccessful buses, either by terminating the Daf rental deal, or transferring the Leylands to Caldaire subsidiary West Riding, of Wakefield.

An average 30 buses are expected to join the United fleet each year.
