• Hemel Hempstead-based haulier Furnell Transport Services has developed an unusual light delivery vehicle with rotating side bill boards allowing up to six different advertisements or liveries to be shown while deliveries are being made.

The vehicle, which is the brainchild of David Furnell, uses 14 rotating triangular alloy extrusions along the side of the body. As the extrusions rotate, the flat side is exposed to the outside and a variety of messages can be displayed on the side wall every 10-14 seconds.

Developed in conjunction with Coackwork Walker and Godfrey Davis, the mobile bill board is based on a Transit 190 chassis with a Luton parcel body. The rotating fins extend some 170mrn into the load area either side of the body, reducing the load volume by some 10%, but still allowing a full payload of 1,250kg.

Furnell has created a new company — Moving Marketing — to promote the concept.

Moving Marketing is planning to set up a fleet of vehicles for hire or lease, standardising on 2.75m long fins, which would allow two sections per side on a 7.5-tonne truck's box body, giving up -to 12 advertisements per vehicle.
