• American parcels giant UPS, which plans to buy an established UK express carrier to expand its UK market share, is believed to have whittled down its choice to two companies.
Negotiations have taken place between the US company and most of the major British parcels carriers which do not have a franchise structure, including NFC's Lynx subsidiary. But the Lynx talks have broken down. "NFC decided not to bite at an offer," says NFC head Sir Peter Thompson.
The two remaining UK operators are rumoured to be Parceline — which has denied it is looking for buyers — and TDG firm Tuffnells, which says it has not been approached. . Last July Tuffnells said it was planning to expand into contract distribution because of .the downturn in parcels.
