In recent months there has been a significant fail in the value of the 1: sterling against the German DM. Three months ago a pound would buy 3.7 DM: now it is worth 3.3 DM. The result is upward pressure on the price of German products in the United Kingdom.

For example, BMW car prices rose by 1.8 per cent last month and VW-Audi car prices went up by an average of four per cent two weeks ago.

MAN-VW says it is expecting an increase in its commercial vehicle price,; within the next week or two. Mercedes-Benz says it has no immediate plans in this direction but that the situation is under -continual review.
