JANUARY was the first month in more than seven years that no new Volvo buses or coaches were registered in the United Kingdom.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, which show bus and coach registrations down by 43.5 per cent on January 1985 to only 134 vehicles, reveal that only seven named maimfacturers had new vehicles registered.
They were Leyland, with a leading market share of 48.5 per cent (1985: 46 per cent); Bedford second with 13.4 per cent (1985: 2.5 per cent); Mctro-Cammell Weyniann with 12.7 per cent (1985: 27.8 per cent); I lestair Dennis with 11.9 per cent (1985: 2.5 per cent); Dal with 6.7 per cent (1985: 4.2 per cent); Scania with 2.2 per cent (1985: 3.8 per cent); and Ford with 2.2 per cent (1985: 2.1 per cent).
But Volvo, which had a 5.5 per cent market share in January 1985 and was third overall last year with a market share of 13.1 per cent, had no vehicles registered last month, the first time this has occurred since December 1978.
MAN also failed to have any coaches registered last nionth.
