THE LORRY Driver of the Year finals return to Cranfield, Bedfordshire, this year, but with a new sponsor.
United Transport International, the BET group's road transport holding group, is sponsoring the regional heats and LDoY finals this year.
Last year, the finals were sponsored by Leyland's• Multi-part operation and were held concurrently with the truck Grand Prix at Silverstone. Until 1984, the competition was sponsored by CM.
LDoY national secretary
John Wells told CM that the event will be back at Cranfield airfield, Bedfordshire, on September 6 and 7. Details of supporting events have still to be settled.
Commenting on the sponsorship agreement, UT! UK and European chairman Gay Fenn-Smith said: "I hope that affiliation of this premier UK contest of driving skill to the international UICR championship will soon be possible, and that we shall ultimately see a world final staged in Britain."
