carry three cable drums, from which the cable is paid out simultaneously from each as the vehicle moves forward, has recently been delivered by Cranes (Dereham), Ltd., Dereham, Norfolk, to the Mexican Light and Power Co., Mexico.
The main deck of the trailer is sloped at the rear and provided with two hinged loading ramps. The drums are hauled up these ramps by a handoperated winch mounted at the forward end of the trailer.
Each drum is carried on a .shaft supported on jacks at each side. These jacks, which are raised or lowered by nut-and-screw gear, are in the form of hinged arms carried on" A" frames secured to the main frame members of the trailer. A man on the trailer controls the drum brakes, the operating levers for which are conveniently' grouped. The design of the suspension is such that the trailer will be able to keep to the transmission-line route irrespective of the type of terrain being traversed. The two front wheels are mounted on a single steering axle, which is also pivoted about the longitudinal axis of the trailer.
At the rear, the four wheels are carried on a "trailing-axle" bogie, each wheel being mounted on an independent stub axle carried on a radius arm. The four radius arms are pivoted on cross-tubes supported from the frame, the pivot for each being at a point forward of its stub axle.
Forward projections of the rear radius arms are connected by links to the front arms, thus effecting compensation between the two wheels on each side of the trailer.
The trailer was supplied to the order of Soci6td Financiere de Transports et d'Entreprises Industrielles, Brussels.
