VV we have heard the evidence, and then we exercise our discretion," Mr. L. C. Pratley, for the Railway and Road Haulage Executives, told the Western Licensing Authority, last week, when Messrs. E. T and W. A. Burrows, Cullompton, applied for permission to operate a cattle truck with a 30-mile radius.

For the applicants, Mr. G. McMurtrie said that no evidence had been given by the Executives, which were listed among the objectors. He commented on the "light-heartedness with which British Railways lodge these objections," and stated that the objectors had not been courteous enough to inform the applicants that they did not intend to press their opposition.

The application was granted.

ROYAL BLUE AND SCOTTISH OMNIBUSES TOURS TOURS to 15 towns in the West 1 Country Are to be operated this summer by Royal Blue Services. Bournemouth and Torquay are to be served by two tours. The longer taur to Torquay is of 15 days' duration and costs £20 16s.

This is the most expensive Royal Blue tour advertised in the brochure recently issued . by London Coastal Coaches, Ltd. The cheapest is an eight-day tour to Weston-super-Mare at £11 8s. 6d.

Scottish Omnibuses, Ltd., is to run 15 tours from London to Scotland this year, ranging in duration from six to 16 days. A I2-day tour to the Trossachs and the North West Highlands costs £37 10s. and a seven-day tour to the Border Abbeys and Loch Lomond is

priced at £19. In addition, extended tours and day tours will be run from Edinburgh.

' BECAUSE the route on which they will run has not yet been made safe, 13 new double-deckers received from Britain by the High Level Road Bus Co., Colombo, Ceylon, are lying idle.

Twenty British trolleybuses are also idle in Colombo as the municipality is barred from running them on the routes required by the new Motor Transport Act.
