Mr. J. W. Kidd, general manager of the Metropolitan-Cammell Carriage and Wagon Co., Ltd., has been appointed to the board of the Midland Railway-Carriage and Wagon Co., Ltd.

Mr. C. W. Reeve, chairman and managing director of the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., has become a member of the Advisory Council of the Board of Trade, on which he will represent the motor industry. Joining the A.E.C. concern in 1915 as works accountant, Mr. Reeve became chief purchasing stores superintendent of the former Underground group of companies in 1924, and acted in that capacity until 1928, when he became actively associated with the company's manufacturing and marketing policy. He was a member of the council of the Motor Trade Association from 19201923, and president of that body in 1923, whilst he served on the council of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders from 1920-1924.

It was in November, 1933, that Mr. Reeve succeeded Mr. H. A. Vernet as chairman of the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd, Mr. V. W. Pilkington, manager of the engineering department of Leyland Motors, Ltd., recently left on a voyage to South Africa, with the object of making a full recovery from his recent illness. He will, however, spend a few weeks, while in South Africa, visiting Leyland users, as well as studying the conditions under which road transport has to operate in the Union.

The Minister of Transport has appointed (apt. R. S. D. Stuart to be chief examiner in the organization which is being set up to examine applicants for driving licences. He has had a u-ide experience of driving all types of motor vehicle and of testing drivers.

The following have been appointed supervising examiners for the different Traffic Areas:—Metropolitan and South-Eastern, Squadron Leader A. R. Mackenzie; Yorkshire, Mr. W. McQuade; North-Western, Mr. G. A, Footitt; West Midland, • Mr. C. C. Griffith; East Midland, Mr. J. H. Bolt; Eastern, Capt. L. G. Wright; South Wales, Mr, D. D. WalrondSkinner; Western, Engineer Commander J. T. Belfield; Northern Scotland.. Mr. G. Scott The arrangements for the appointments in the Northern area of England and the Southern area . of Scotland are not yet complete.

Mr. W. E. Gooday, M.Inst.M.M., M.Inst.P.T., who, until a few months ago, was manager of the technical department of the Vacuum Oil Co., has set up as a consultant on lubricants and lubrication at Brettenharn House, London, W.C.2. He has had extensive experience in the oil industry and, during the war, was engaged on technical work in connection with aircraft fuels and lubricants, and was nominated by the Air Council to visit America as a member of an Inter-Allied Petroleum Commission to investigate technical questions of oil supply.

Hepworth and Grandage, Ltd., St. John's Works, Bradford, the manufacturer of Hepolite pistons, piston rings and other products used in the motor trade, has recently re-allocated certain areas covered by its sales representatives, in furtherance of its service policy.

Mr. Coulton is now covering the counties of Warwick, Leicester, Stafford, Derby, Worcester and the city of Nottingham, relinquishing to Mr. J. Foster the area that he previously covered. Mr. Norton is now confining his "activities to Northumberland, Durham, Cumberland, Westmorland and Yorkshire, the areas that he previously worked now being in the hands of Mr. A. A. Hall.
