• Road building cuts in line with the £1.1bn spending cuts announced in last month's Budget mean six road improvement schemes have been postponed. And the A34 Newbury bypass has also been put on hold. Seventeen other projects will go ahead as planned. The cuts follow the Government's positive response to the Standing Advisory Committee on Trunk Road Assessment (SACTRA) report, which says new roads generate extra traffic.
