EXCLUSIVE

by Brian Weatherley • A Volvo FL multi-wheeler powered by an electronic 12-litre DI2 engine taken from the latest FH range is set to make its debut at next month's Brussels truck show.

Although the standard FL cab fitted on the FL7/10 tractor is incapable of taking the D12 diesel beneath it, the high floor FL cab, used on Volvo's construction/off-road tipper range, can. This cab will be used on the Brussels show truck.

While Volvo is tight-lipped over the chances of putting the D12 engine and highfloor FL cab on a tractor it \ seems like ly that growing operator demand for more power in the current FLIO will prompt it to do so, possibly before mid-1995.

While the FLIO's 9.6litre TD103ES engine develops 315hp, the D12 straight-six is available with 340, 380 and 420hp nominal ratings.

However, a D12-powered FL cab tractor would not be a long-term product.

Volvo is already working on a replacement to the FL10 which will have a version of the existing FH "family" cab.
