• Armstrong Forest Fasteners has boosted its Nyloc locking nuts with the introduction of the Deltaloc range with the Deltatone anti-corrosion protection system claimed to provide better protection and galvanising particularly on fastenings, washers, clips, springs and pressings.
The nylon insert, which is the key to the nuts' locking characteristics, has prohibited the use of galvanising and similar protection systems because the heat level required would destroy the nylon; equally, it is impossible to Et the nylon after galvanising as this physically breaks down the coating in the area of the insert.
Alternative finishes, including cadmium or bright zinc passivates, phosphate and other similar coatings, offer a measure of corrosion resistance but do not meet the upgraded corrosion protection specifications demanded by some quality manufacturers and rebuilders.
The nuts have been developed jointly by the GBN
Group and Armstrong Forest Fasteners.
Deltatone, developed in the United States, carries its high zinc content in a specially formulated resin-bonded organic coating and is applied by the dip and spin process. It has achieved saltspray test figures of up to 1,000 hours (say, 15 years' normal wear).
A joint programe by Forest Fasteners and Delta GBN has led to two versions of the Nyloc nut coming to the market place: • The standard thread (metric or Imperial) range coated with Deltatone and marketed by Forest Fasteners.
• The Deltaloc with its thread tapped oversize before Deltatone treatment to match the tolerances of the hot spelter galvanised bolt to which it is assembled; marketed by Delta GBN's parent company Galvanised Bolts & Nuts.
The standard colours are silver grey or black, but a range of colours is available for colour
