Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Having read your recent article putting manufacturers' breakdown rescue services to the test (CM 12-18 November), I have the following comments to make.

Firstly, it is possible to stop the engine of a 2035 even when the air pressure is too low for the exhaust brake shutoff to operate. There are two ways of handling this situation.

If there are two people available it is possible to manually select a high gear by using the safety mechanism on the gearbox and then the driver would be able to stall the engine.

Alternatively, as you pointed out, the cab can be tilted in perfect safety while the engine is running and the injection pump can be shut down by closing the rack to no fuel. I would stress that the situation you found yourself in with no air pressure is very extreme. Nigel Emms, Public Relations Executive, Mercedes-Benz (UK).
