Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TRUE or false?* Automatic warning signals on most motorways are: A Mounted overhead; B At one-mile intervals; C Mounted on the central reserve.

This is one of the questions in a chapter of posers in The Heavy Goods Vehicle Driving Test and Licences (Kogan Page; £5.95 paperback, £9.95 hardback), now in an updated fourth edition.

Author David P. Soye, a Road Transport Industry Training Board registered hgv instructor and staff member of the Manchester Training Group, includes two new chapters. One is on the ordinary driving • licence regulation and the other on the psv driving test and licence. The latter driving test fee is £36 compared to £65 for the hgv one. Quite a discrepancy, that.

The guide explains what qualifications are needed to become an hgv driver, taking into account some recent changes in qualifications and in the cost and duration of licences. It takes the test applicant through each stage of the test, going through the exercises that the applicant will be asked to perform. It also covers the oral questions the driver is likely to be asked on the Highway Code, vehicle safety and the recognition of road signs and markings.

To help the applicant, illustrations of some of the current road markings are provided. The guide also includes details of the Young Driver Training Scheme.

*C is the correct answer. Kogan Page, 120 Pentonville Road, London N1.
