A SARDONIC Terry Law, chairman of NALGO's national transport committee, paints a primitive picture of the effects of legislation based on the Government's White Paper, Buses.
Writing in Public Service, the association's newspaper, above a photograph of a bus passing the Highwayman Inn, he blethers: "We face the prospect of a multitude of cowboy operators rushing about our cities in clapped-out vehicles. What the Transport Secretary calls the bracing atmosphere of free and unfettered competition will turn out more like the Keystone Cops."
As an enthusiast for Golden Oldies, I welcome the prospect. Cowboys, Indians, highwaymen and funny policemen, they are all the same to our Terry.
