VOTING in the drivers' tachograph ballot has been very slow, and a complete result is not expected before the middle of January.
Drivers in 11 Transport and General Workers Union regions have been voting on whether or not to take industrial action against the installation and use of tachographs, and only two results had been returned when we closed for press.
TGWU is keeping its lips closed firmly on the subject, but it is known that the Southern region, which includes Hampshire, Berkshire, Sussex, and Surrey and takes in the traditionally militant Southampton branch, has voted 75-25 against taking industrial action.
So far, only the Lincoln branch is known to have voted in favour of taking industrial action, but the attitude, of the surrounding region could well swamp its views.
