• The Muriehall to Lathallan section of ti Edinburgh-Stirling motorway (M9) w opened on Monday. It brings the total dual carriageway trunk roads in the Scotti programme up to 243 miles, of which ' miles are m-way. The 71 miles Kilmarno bypass will be opened to traffic in Februa and spring should see the completion the Gretna bypass at the southern end oft Glasgow-Carlisle trunk road (A74/M7. There will then be an uninterrupted du carriageway link from Maryville on I outskirts of Glasgow to London and industrial areas of England.
