Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A DEMAND that turnstiles should be removed from public lavatories at railway, coach and bus stations was made in the Lords last week.

Baroness Brooke of Ystradfellte pointed out that turnstiles had to be removed by law from public lavatories provided by local authorities—and commented that they were just as objectionable in the one place as in the other.

Government spokesman Lord Shepherd told her that this was a matter of management for the various transport undertakings, which were under no statutory obligation to remove turnstiles. They had, however, assured the Transport Minister that they were taking the opportunity as it occurred to dispense with the old type of turnstile.

The private bus companies and those under the THC were removing the old ones as rapidly as possible, and by law the municipal bus companies had to remove them all.
